A dual clutch transmission comprises a liquid cooled dry clutch assembly 100 having a driving plate 102 defining concentric engagement surfaces, concentric friction plates 130, 132 which are clamped against the engagement surfaces by concentric pressure plates 122 that are urged by first and second clutch springs. The driving plate 102 contains cooling passageways or conduits 104, 106, 108 which form part of a circuit for directing a flow of cooling fluid into and out of driving plate 102. An inlet 124 and an outlet 126 connect the conduits 104, 106, 108 to passageways in concentric inner and outer shafts 110, 112. The passageways in the shafts 110, 112 communicate with an engine cooling circuit via a heat exchanger. Driving plate 102 may have a cranked or top-hat configuration with opposing engagement surfaces which engage with opposing pressure plates 122. In another embodiment the driving plate 102 is coupled to the pressure plates 122 by a conductive element for thermal heat transfer between the driving plate 102 and pressure plates 122. |
