PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data input system that enables a user to input data by using an ordinarily used portable terminal.SOLUTION: A data input system 1 includes a portable terminal 3 and a personal computer 2 that communicates with the portable terminal 3. The portable terminal 3 includes: a touch panel 304 that displays a key arrangement image; a coordinate information generation unit 312 that generates coordinate information indicating a position that is touched on the touch panel 304; and a coordinate information supply unit 313 that supplies the coordinate information. The personal computer 2 includes: a coordinate information acquisition unit 221 that obtains the coordinate information; conversion units 230 and 241 that converts the coordinate information into character data corresponding to the key arrangement image; and an information display unit 203 that displays a character indicated by the character data obtained from the conversion units 230 and 241.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
