The invention relates to a cable tank for mounting in a vessel cargo hold that has a bottom construction with anchor fittings, said cable tank comprising an outer, substantially cylindrical delimitation and an inner substantially cylindrical core round which a cable can be wound. The invention is characterised in that the outer delimitation is formed by a number of separate constructive elements; that the constructive elements comprise first coupling means that allow a releasable mechanical coupling of adjoining constructive elements; that the constructive elements comprise second coupling means that allow a releasable mechanical coupling of the constructive elements with conventional anchor fittings in the vessel's cargo hold; and in that the inner core comprises means that allow a releasable mechanical coupling of the core with said anchor fittings.
