PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized magnetostrictive torque sensor having output characteristics not dependent on the rotating angle of a rotating shaft. SOLUTION: This torque sensor comprises the rotating shaft 1 having magnetostrictive characteristics and first and second coils 3 and 4 each forming three or more closed loops. For each coil, the closed loops are arranged on a concentric circle relative to the rotating shaft (a concentric circle located on a plane vertical to the rotating shaft), and the direction of magnetostrictive characteristics of the rotating shaft detected by the first coil is different from the direction of magnetostrictive characteristics of the rotating shaft detected by the second coil.
