Fabric is simultaneously desized, scoured and bleached by a process in which it is first impregnated at room temperature with an aqueous solution containing hydrogen peroxide in an amount corresponding to a content of 2.5- 8.5% by weight of 35% by weight hydrogen peroxide and caustic soda in an amount corresponding to a content of 0.2-5% by weight of 36‹ Baume caustic soda, and then sequentially treated with saturated steam at 90‹- 100‹C, treated with hot water at 60-90‹C., treated with hot water and steam at 90-100‹C and finally washed in a plurality of washing steps at progressively reduced temperatures. The aqueous solution may also contain a stabilizer, e.g. an albuminous derivative or sodium silicate, a sequestering agent and a capillary active agent, e.g. an alkyl phenol compound, hydroxyethylene derivative or sodium salt of a synthetic acrylic carboxylic acid. The fabric may be squeezed between each step. Fabrics, including pile fabrics, made from cotton alone or in admixture with polyester fibres or from viscose rayon may be treated. Fabrics containing cotton bolls and unripened cotton may be treated. |
