Azo pigments have the formula (I): where r is H, Cl or Br, ar' is arylene, Y has the formula -CONH- or -NHCO and Ar2 is substd. aryl which is free from COOH and sulphonamide gps. I can be used to colour spinning compsns, e.g. of viscose, in printing pastes for book or offset printing, in lacquers, contg. nitrocellulose, acrylates, melamine or alkyds, to colour phenoplasts and aminoplasts and thermoplasts such as polystyrene, polyalkenes or PVC, in gums or polysiloxane resins, in laminate papers and in textile printing. I have high resistance to light, weathering wind and migration.
