Boring tool for difficult to machine metals - has cutting edges in form of circular discs with tapered edges

The tool is for boring holes in difficult to machine metals. The cutting edges are in the form of discs (12) of hard metal with tapered edges. These discs fir into matching recesses in the flutes of the drill shank (15) and are retained by central clamping screws (14). Holes (19) in the drill shank direct cooling fluid to the cutting face. The shape of cutting edge forms a groove in the workpiece which guides the tool with an increase in accuracy, especially when drilling deep holes. The tool produces chips with a spherical surface which consequently are easier to remove.
