PURPOSE:The polymerization of styrene is carried out in the presence of a cation exchange resin in a solvent at a specific concentration of styrene and a specific temperature to produce selectively styrene oligomers mainly consisting of trimer and tetramer. CONSTITUTION:For example, is a solvent, e.g., aromatic hydrocarbon, benzene; alicyclic hydrocarbon, cyclohexane; or halogenated hydrocarbon, ethylene dichloride; sytrene is polymerized in the presence of a cation exchange resin of sytrenedivinylbenzene copolymer bearing sulfonate groups in a styrene concentration of less than 20vol%, preferably less than 10vol%, at a temperature of 10-120 deg.C, preferably 30-90 deg.C to produce selectively styrene oligomers containing mainly trimer and tetramer. |
