Welding line for prodn. of coiled tubing from coiled strip comprises (i) a coil handling station consisting of a reel, which can be moved transversely w.r.t. the line, and a bobbin which carries the strip coils; (ii) a strip butt-joining assembly; (iii) strip shaping, seam welding and advancement stations, (iv) a tube coiling station including bending rolls; (v) a coiled tube receiving station including guide rollers controlled by the same controller as the bending rolls; and (vi) a device for cutting the tubing into lengths, positioned downstream of the bending rolls. The guide rollers are mounted on a platform which can be inclined w.r.t. the axes of the bending rolls and is connected to the output shaft of the controller via a universal joint. The welding line is esp. useful for prodn. of thin-walled tubing (esp. tubing having an o.d. to wall thickness ratio of about 60) at welding speeds of about 15 m/min. The line produces tube coils of the required length independently of the lengths of the strip coils and operates continuously without requiring rethreading of the tube into the bending rolls.
