Device for operating movable curtains composed of curtain elements which are suspended movably between a closed and an open curtain position and, by means of hangers, on a supporting rail, in which device the hangers, guided movably, are connected to one another by means of spacers and can be coupled by means of couplings to an operating member which is likewise mounted in the supporting rail and which passes through the hangers. In each hanger there is a releasable drive coupling connecting this hanger to the operating member, releasable holding couplings being arranged between in each case two adjacent hangers, the coupling members of which engage in one another in the holding position, so that the curtain elements can be moved out of their spread-out curtain position in a jamming-free manner into lateral stowed positions and out of these back into the spread-out curtain position. Special bolts serve for fixing the stowed positions, thus ensuring that the hangers can be moved out of their stowed position only in succession.
