PURPOSE:To supply a mixture gas with optimum air-to-fuel ratio as in layers by furnishing a fuel supply part overstream the convergent point of suction pipes, allowing an air supply passage to open at a point overstream the suction valve of each combustion chamber, and by varying the amount of air from said opening in response to the condition of engine. CONSTITUTION:In the uniform filling mode, no air is supplied from an air supply passage 34, and the fuel from an injection valve 24 is turned into fine particles by a vibrator 22 to be inhaled in a combustion chamber 18 uniformly. In the in- layers filling mode, on the other hand, the fuel is injected and turned into fine particles immediately before the suction valve 14 is opened, and the mixture gas in the suction passage 16 moves between this and the suction valve 14, but air is supplied from the abovementioned passage 34 via an air guage valve 36 to make the mixture gas around the opening part leaner. This forms a convolutional stream together with the supplied air stream to be inhaled into the combustion chamber 18 as in layers, while a belt of ignitable mixture gas is formed in the neighborhood of an ignition plug 44. Thus ignition in lean burn system is performed. |
