PURPOSE:To obviate an increase in drop-out owing to corrosion at a cut end by disposing a plasma-polymerized film having the higher hydrophobicity than the hydrophobicity of a high polymer substrate on the high polymer substrate then disposing a magnetic recording layer consisting of a thin ferromagnetic metallic film thereon. CONSTITUTION:The plasma-polymerized film 5 is obtd. on the high polymer substrate 4 (e.g.; PP, etc.) in such a way that the contact angle with 40 deg.C water attains >=70 deg. in absolute value from the substrate 4 and that the film thickness is made 500-1,000Angstrom with respect to the flow rate of a monomer, discharge conditions, etc. The contact angle is increased in this stage by maintaining the vacuum degree in the stage of the electric discharge with a plasma polymerizing device at <=10<-6> and performing preliminary discharge at the frequency 2-4 times the frequency to be used for several minutes. Fluorocarbon or the like such as polytetrafluoroethylene is used as the monomer from which the film 5 is obtd. The thin ferromagnetic metallic film (e.g.; Co-Ni, etc.) is formed by an electron beam vapor deposition, etc. The migration of water to the high polymer substrate side and the consequent corrosion are thus obviated.
