PURPOSE:To look for a correct editing point by monitoring digital audio signals near an editing point on a magnetic tape, determining the editing point from tape address recorded on the magnetic tape and making splice editing. CONSTITUTION:The tape address is recorded on the longitudinal direction of the tape 1. Digital audio signals recorded on the tape 1 are monitored by a head for data reproduction 4, and digital audio signals near the editing point are stored in a memory 11. Digital audio signals read out from the memory 11 are reproduced and the final editing point is determined. At the same time, an editing point address signal corresponding to the final editing point is detected, and the editing point signal and the reproduced address of the tape are compared. The final editing point is made to conform with the position of a splicing device 6 and the tape 1 is cut by the splicing device at this position.
