PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of an unnecessary image by control or display or the like which prohibits the manual insertion of an original to an image forming device by detecting the non-conduction between electrodes by a detecting means. CONSTITUTION:The signal of whether the original 4 is placed on original glass 5 or not is inputted to an AND circuit 26. The output signal 27 of the AND circuit operates only when the output signal 18' from an output terminal 18 for detecting the remaining original is a high level and an original set mode signal 25 is a high level. An inhibition circuit is provided in a control circuit 28 so that the original glass 5 does not start even if the original 3 is inadvertently inserted through an original supply port 2 and a paper feed sensor 11 operates. The start of the glass 5 is thus prohibited. A display signal 29 for the remaining original is outputted simultaneously to a display circuit 30 to announce to the user that the original 4 remains. The user removes the remaining original 4, then the output signal 18' turns to a low level and therefore the output signal 27 of the circuit 26 turns to the low level and the setting and copying of the original 3 with a manual original feeder are made possible.
