PURPOSE:To improve workability in assembling by concentrating very separate suction passage connected to each suction port on both banks upon a surge tank arranged above one of the banks, and forming each of the above suction passages in two piece structure. CONSTITUTION:A front and a rear cylinder head 3, 4 are arranged on a cylinder block 2 in mutual inclination at an angle to form a front and a rear bank 1A, 1B, and mutually opposite suction ports 8 opening toward each of the cylinder heads 3, 4 are formed inside them respectively. A suction device is composed of a suction manifold 6 to form a front and a rear separate suction passage 10, 11 connected to the each suction port 8, and a surge tank 12 to which the upper stream end of each of the suction passages 10, 11 arranged above the rear bank 1B is connected respectively. The separate suction passages 10, 11 are composed of the passages 10a, 11a on the surge tank side which are divided by an approximately horizontal connection plane (F) situated above both the banks 1A, 1B and at their middle, and passage 10b, 11b on the suction port side.
