PURPOSE:To avoid incomplete adjustment due to replacement of adjusting tape or damaged tape and to reduce the adjustment time by giving an adjustment signal to an adjustment audio head in place of the adjustment by running the adjustment tape. CONSTITUTION:Adjusting audio heads 2, 3 are set before adjustment by a fixing device 9 in a way to be matched to the tape running line. Then a height adjusting signal and an azimuth adjusting signal are given to adjusting audio heads 2, 3 from an adjustment signal generator 1 to generate a magnetic flux, which is detected by audio heads 4, 5 for recording and reproduction, the result is amplified by preamplified by audio heads 4, 5 for recording and reproduction, the result is amplified by preamplifiers 6, 7 and outputted to output terminals 63, 73 and test points 62, 72. A signal at the test points 62, 72 is inputted to a measuring instrument 8 and the recording/reproduction audio heads 2, 3 are adjusted so that the signal level is maximized at the height adjustment and the signal phase is coincident at the azimuth adjustment. Thus, it is not required to run the adjusting tape.
