PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester of a low specific resistance without forming coarse particles, by polycondensing an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (lower alkyl ester) with ethylene glycol in the presence of a Mg compound and a specified P compound. CONSTITUTION:An acid component based on an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (lower alkyl ester) is esterified or transesterified with a glycol component based on ethylene glycol. The reaction product is mixed with 0.05-1mol% (in terms of Mg), based on the acid component constituting the polyester, Mg compound (e.g., magnesium acetate), at least one P compound selected from among a partially esterified phosphoric acid (e.g., monomethyl phosphate), phosphorous acid (ester), e.g., monomethyl phosphite, and a polycondensation catalyst and the resulting mixture is polycondensed to obtain a polyester (A) of a specific resistance of 5X10<7>-1X10<6>OMEGA.cm. Component A is mixed with a polyester of a specific resistance of 5X10<9>-5X10<7>>.cm at a weight ratio of 1/2-100 to obtain a polyester composition of a specific resistance of 5X10<9>-5X10<7>OMEGA.cm.
