PURPOSE:To record a picture while the contrast of the picture at a remote location is adjusted properly by allowing an elextric signal extraction section to output a signal of a facsimile equipment in an image pickup section of a camera having an automatic focus function and using the output of an automatic luminous quantity measuring section so as to control and adjust automatically the read time of an electric signal. CONSTITUTION:A lens section 2 collects a reflected ray of a plane picture 7 at a remote location, forms the image onto an image pickup section 3, the image pickup section 3 scans the pick-up image by many fine parallel straight line patterns to obtain a facsimile signal and converts the signal into an electric signal. The signal extraction section 4 segments the electric signal obtained from the section 3 by using segmentation time designated by a segmentation time setting section 6 and supplies an output by using a read signal being the facsimile signal. The luminous quantity measuring section 5 collects the entire light of the picture 7, measures the luminous quantity from the picture 7 and informs it to the segmentation time setting section 6. When the luminous quantity measured by the section 5 is large, the segmentation time setting section 6 decreases the segmentation time and increases it when the luminous quantity is small, and the segmentation time is set to a value where the electric charge of the CCD line sensor being an image body in the image pickup section 3 is not saturated.
