PURPOSE:To obtain character strings set in good form by displaying or printing the characters in the form of a string and in the sizes in response to the style of each character. CONSTITUTION:A controller 1 reads the dot patterns of characters designated by each character code out of a character generator of a memory device 4 and displays them successively on a CRT 3. In this case, KANJI (Chinese characters) are displayed in em with KANA (Japanese syllabary) characters, special symbols, etc. displayed in 1/n em respectively. Thus the character strings set in good order are displayed on the CRT 3. In addition, the characters are arrayed with orderly spaces also in case the character information stored in the device 4 are read out successively and given to a print output device 5 for print by using a size of 16Q (1Q=1/4mm) with KANJI and proper sizes (11Q, 13Q, 15Q) with KANA characters respectively.
