PURPOSE:To convert a signal with CMI code into a signal with NRZ code with simple circuit constitution by selecting an output level in a way that the signal is amplified at the linear region when the length of a coaxial cable is nearly equal to a prescribed length and the signal is amplified at the saturated region when the length is shorter than the prescribed length. CONSTITUTION:With an signal (A) with CMI code having an attenuation characteristic of OdB without deterioration in the transmission characteristic inputted to a broad band saturation type amplifier cirauit 3 though an equalizing circuit 2, the amplification operation functions at the saturation region and the actual frequency characteristic is subject to gain limit and a flat characteristic over a wide band is attained. If the signal B with CMI code having + several dB attenuation due to the deterioration in the transmission characteristic is inputted to the amplifier 3, the amplification is executed at the linear region and the signal equalized by the equalizing circuit 2 with the most desirable correction approximation is amplified as it is. That is, the signal D with stabed CMI is reproduced by the amplifier 3 without being affected by the presence of the deterioration in the transmission characteristic and the attenuation charactristic fluctuation of 0-+several dB.
