PURPOSE:To securely and simply detect the position and bearing of an object by recognizing existence by means of histogram by bearing of the contour of the object and obtaining the bearing by means of the parallel shifting matching of the histogram for contour fine bearing obtained in HOUGH transformation. CONSTITUTION:A titled device consists of a picture input device 1, a contour binary picture detection means 2, a contour picture memory means 3, an octabearing contour vector detection means 4, an octabearing contour histogram memory means for objective picture 5, an octabearing contour histogram memory means for reference picture 6, a HOUGH transforming means 7, a fine bearing histogram memory means for objective picture 8, a fine bearing histogram memory means for reference picture 9, a selector 10 and a calculation means 11. Since the histogram confirms the existence area by the bearing of the contour of the object, the object can securely be detected even if it is covered with background. By obtaining the bearing by the parallel shifting matching of the histogram, picture processing can considerably be facilitated without the need of Affine transformation which is accompanied by rotating operation.
