PURPOSE:To update an inputted key word in the shortest operating time by providing an output code discriminating part and an update control part and detecting an update key word or an update instruction code to set a pointer at this update position to give the shift control to a pointer which indicates a writing position when a key word is composed. CONSTITUTION:An output code received from an input means 2 is judged by a discriminating part 21 and a display data selecting signal is sent to a selecting signal detecting means 8. At the same time, the key word update data is sent to a replacement control part 22. The part 22 confirms the position of a changed character among the existing key words and sets a writing pointer at said character position. A key word composing means 4 updates the key word at the pointed position and updates the key word under display with an input character symbol received from the means 2. Thus it is possible to transmit a correct key word in the minimum number of key operations even in case a key word is partly corrected or the characters are added.
