The heat generating method for warming food at above 40 deg.C comprises reacting limestone containing more than 80% calcium oxide with reactant water containing 0.1-10 wt.% water glass to control both the reaction temperature and the reaction time. The heating apparatus consists of a heat-generating chamber (1) with the heat-conductive outer surface, limestone chamber (4), a temporary thin membrane (5) with connection thread, which is placed between (4) and the reactant water chamber (2), a residue collector (7) under (4), a vertical drainage pin (8) in the inner center of (1) to withdraw the reactant water, and a latch (9) to rupture (5) by pulling a knob (10), which causes the reaction of (3) and (6).
