PURPOSE: To obtain a polymer mixture, comprising a polyionic polypeptide, a high-molecular weight polyanion and a highly charged polyanion and capable of providing a pH-dependent phase change in an aqueous solution and imparting the improved dispersibility and increased smoothness and uniformity to a cosmetic preparation. CONSTITUTION: This aqueous composition comprises water and a ternary polymer mixture of (A) a polyionic polypeptide, e.g. a protein, especially a blood serum albumin, (B) a high-molecular weight polyanion having about >=100,000, preferably about 1,000,000 to about 10,000,000 molecular weight, e.g. a polynucleotide or a polycarboxylate, especially hyaluronan or its derivative and (C) a highly charged polyanion having about <3pKa, especially about <1.5pKa in an amount so as to provide about <1,000, especially about 100 to about 350 equiv. weight of acidic groups, e.g. a polysulfate or a polysulfonate, especially dextran sulfate. The aqueous composition is capable of providing a pH-depefident phase change in an aqueous solution (e.g. a change in light transmittance). The preferred amount of the respective formulated components are about 0.1 to about 20wt.% of the component A and about 0.05 to about 1wt.% each of the components B and C.
