The waveforms each having a different sampling rate according to respective scales are stored on a memory effectively and the waveform data is used to generate tone without any tone color difference. The circuit includes a sample memory (11) having sampling rate data for scale data, a decoder (14) for generating sampling rate data of octave tone, a shift pulse generator (15) for generating the number of pulses according to sampling rate data generated by the decoder (14), a shift register (12) for generating sampling rate for input tone, a latch (16) for latching output signal of the shift register (12), a comparator (17) for comparating output signal of the latch (16) with that of an adder (18), and an adder (21) for designating address of external waveform ROM (22) according to output signal of the latch (20) and an adder (18).
