A step stare scanning device (10) includes a mirror (12) with a plurality of facets (16, 18, 20) mounted to a mechanism which substantially simultaneously rotates the mirror (12) about a first axis (20) while orbiting the mirror about a second axis (36). The rotating and orbiting motion creates a step stare scanning pattern from a constant rotary input.
