The device includes a microprocessor and digital memory for holding a short length of the owners voice message. The voice messaging device is intended for storage and replay of a message whilst a person is temporarily absent. The box (1) includes a microphone (9) connected to a microprocessor with a digital memory, providing for digitisation, recording and storage of the sound signals which form the message. A further electronic module converts the stored data into speech by use of the loudspeaker. The device also includes a presence detector (10). When an individual interrupts the beam of the presence detector, the device emits a light signal (11), and then either a beep, or an announcement.
