PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optically active 1,1-bi-2-naphthol from a 2-naphthol by simple operation in a high yield by using an optically active compound which is industrially readily obtainable and inexpensive. SOLUTION: This method for producing the optically active 1,1-bi-2-naphthol comprises a process for subjecting a 2-naphthol to oxidative coupling to produce a 1,1-bi-2-naphthol, a process for adding optically active proline to the obtained reaction liquid to produce an inclusion compound of optically active proline and an optically active 1,1-bi-2-naphthol, a process for separating the inclusion compound from the reaction liquid and a process for separating the optically active 1,1-bi-2-naphthol from the inclusion compound.
