<p>A high load-carrying capacity can be obtained by using four wheels, and the overrunning brake mechanism is adapted for uniform braking of all the wheels. Conveniently it includes a balance beam assembly operating the brakes through respective Bowden cables in response to input force from another cable. The trailer chassis has two longitudinal members or frame girders joined by two tubular cross-members, and the wheels are supported from these cross-members, optionally by trailing arms of a spring suspension. In one modification the Bowden cable extending to the overrun brake may act through a prestressed compression spring to ensure that braking is not effected until a predetermined pull acting on an individual wheel brake is exceeded.</p> |
