<p>Ribbons of plastic material for typewriters and similar printing machines are coated, by passing the ribbon over support plates beneath a container of pigment, so that as the ribbon runs between, the pigment flows on to it. The space between the upper surface of the plates and the under surface of the container corresponds to the thickness of the layer of pigment and the ribbon, which is afterwards dried. For two colour ribbons, the tape is guided accurately beneath a first container which coats the one half and then under a second dispenser which coats the other half, possibly leaving a very narrow gap between the two layers of pigment. A two colour ribbonis obtd. in which the colours do not run together over the centre line, so that printing is sharp and of high quality.</p> |
