Catalyst for accelerating biodegradation of effluent waters etc. - with aerobic microorganisms, contains a mercaptoamino acid, magnesium ion, an alkyl acetate and pure water

Catalyst for biodegradation reactions of biodegradable materials in the presence of aerobic microorganisms comprises (a) i mole of a mercaptoaminoacid (I), (b) 2 moles Mg2+ ion, (c) 2.5 moles of an alkyl acetate with 1-3C alkyl groups, and (d) 50 moles very pure water with a resistivity of 5000 ohms m-1. Catalyst is esp. for purification of water polluted with org. matter, to degrade the org. material into odourless gases such as CO2 and a sludge which settles on the floor of the tank. The catalyst reduces the purification time necessary by a factor of about 10.
