<p>Pipe couplings incorporate annular seals made of flexible polyurethane which can be dilated radially by axial compression between two clamps and a collar to seal against the coupling walls. Suitable for pipe systems for central heating or for conveying gas, compressed air or hydrocarbons. The coupling design does not require the pipe ends to be externally threaded, though a ribbed or grooved pipe end profile can provide enhanced grip. A component mounted between twin couplings may be released and removed without disturbing the adjacent pipes. The couplings can withstand vibration. Embodiments describe couplings for joining pipes of similar or dissimilar diameters. One variation involves an olive interposed between two pipes having flared ends. Saddle type couplings are also described for sealing pipe branch connections normal or oblique to the main pipe. The seal may be trapped in a butt joint between two pipe sockets fitted with internal and external sleeves.</p> |
