Document file index tab attachment system - includes ultrasonic welding of tab to cover through holes near cover edge

A method of making document files for a suspension filing system includes attaching index or signalling tabs. Each tab (7) is made of plastics material suitable for ultrasonic welding, and having a U shape. This is fitted over the edge of the cover (6) of the file, which may be reinforced if required. A set of three holes (61) is made at the required position on near the edge, and the tab is positioned to cover the holes. The underside of the tab is then rested on a member shaped to support the weld region, and the welding electrode (8) is foced against the tab at the region of each hole, to give a strong weld.
