The electrically heated hairdressing tongs are for curling or straightening hair tresse. The tong heads are rotatable through 180 deg. to present undulating or plane working faces. The appliance may have a hollow handle which supports a static tong arm, a mobile tong arm and a hand lever. The arms may be of round hollow section to house cables and terminal elements and support enlarged tong heads (4,5) of rectangular section. The mobile arm may be pin-jointed to the housing, to be displaced by a cam-shaped lever, and be recoil sprung. The opposed major faces of the tong heads may be undulating and plane.
