The dry sorting equipment separates heavy items (7) such as stones, pieces of metal etc. from a continuous flow containing them and lighter materials (8) such as wood bark or shavings, domestic waste paper, wood offcuts etc. A conveyor (1) delivers the mixture to a separator (9) with a horizontal drum (10) turned by a drive mechanism. Flexible components (15) on the outside of the drum yield under the weight of the heavy items, so that these can drop into a space below the separator. The flexible components are rectangular plates of flexible material, mounted very close together in rows at intervals round the drum periphery and parallel to its axis. They are so mounted as to produce, between the conveyor outlet end and the separator, a current of air supporting and propelling the lightweight material. |
