Adhesive backed envelopes are made by using a support sheet coated with release agent to carry a double layer of fusible film with welded longitudinal seams beneath a hot tool which seals and severs the film transversely without damaging the substrate. The film interface with the carrier sheet is precoated with adhesive, so that the sheet continues to support a series of individual envelopes, sepd. by a few mm, by thermal shrinkage at mutual borders, which can be individually detached manually or automatically from the continuous support. Used esp. for prepg. envelopes for fixing instructions or labels on to the outside of parcels. Simpler to use than prefabricated individual envelopes from which single or multiple covers have to be removed from the adhesive coated under surface. |
