PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image displaying apparatus capable, in spite of its compactness, of see-through displaying in which an image is superposed over a bright external scene on a large screen.SOLUTION: A picture displaying apparatus EG comprises a display element DP that displays an image IM and an observation optical system LE that projects and displays the image IM to an observer eye EY in a see-through way as a virtual image so that the image IM overlaps an external scene. The observation optical system LE comprises a light emitting optical system LN that emits the light of the image IM from a side of the observer eye EY to its front and a holographic optical element HO that reflects, by the diffraction effect of light, a light ray of a specific wavelength out of light rays from the light emitting optical system LN to the observer eye EY. The holographic optical element HO so reflects the light ray as to make the reflection angle of a main light ray AX emitted from the screen center of the display element DP smaller than the positive reflection angle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
