PURPOSE:To enable a drive shaft for a vehicle to be simply incorporated in a differential for a short time. CONSTITUTION:A crankshaft 1g is disposed widthwise of a vehicle and an engine 1 is disposed transversely. A speed change mechanism 12 is disposed behind the engine 1 and the input shaft 12a is disposed parallel to the crankshaft 1g. Further, a differential 17 is disposed below the speed change mechanism 12. An axially long shaft section 18d of a drive shaft 18 for a right front wheel is integrated with a center bearing 23, side cover 24, oil seal 25 and O-ring 26 to provide a sub-assembly. While the tip of the shaft section 18d is inserted in a insert hole 17d of a side gear 17c of the differential 17, the side cover 24 is mounted fixedly to an extended portion 30b of a speed change mechanism case 30 by bolts 31 to cover a drive shaft inserting hole 30c.
