The flowmeter has an at least approximately horizontal measurement tube (2) through which a magnetic field passes essentially parallel to a dia. (4). Measurement electrodes (12,14) are mounted in the tube wall on either side of this dia. A channel (18) in the base of the tube runs approximately symmetrically w.r.t. this dia. At least one further electrode (24,26) is mounted in each wall of the channel. The channel can be formed in an insulating coating (28) on the tube floor.
