The invention relates to a fold-away open-hearth fireplace structure, one variant of which is intended for the kitchen. It consists of a fixed framework comprising the uprights (1) and the fascia (2), on which the following movable pieces are articulated: the hood (30) and the hearth (50), it being possible for the ash-pan to be removed from its housing. When the chimney is in operation, open, the hood (30) folded out and the hearth (50) positioned horizontally, it has all the characteristics of an open-hearth chimney. When the chimney is not in operation, closed, the hood (30) and the hearth (50) aligned with the plane of the facade, it then occupies a distinctly smaller space. <IMAGE>
