The apparatus and method is for controlling power supplied to a keyphone according to the hook status, timer data, and peripheral condition of a keyphone. The apparatus comprises a photo detector (1) for detecting the peripheral intensity of illuminance of a keyphone, a hook status detector(2) for detecting the hook status of a keyphone, a timer(3) for discriminating the day and night, a logic unit(4) for operating the output signals of the photo detector(1), the hook status detector(2), and the timer(3), a microprocessor(4) for controlling the operation of a keyphone system according to the output signal of the logic unit(4), and a relay controller(7) for controlling power supplied to a keyphone by driving a relay(6).
