PURPOSE: To provide an electro-optical modulator which is inexpensive without addition of fresh constitution and with which an improvement in the stability of the modulation performance of the electro-optical modulator is possible. CONSTITUTION: Electric resistivity increases, i.e., electric conductivity decreases when the oxygen content of ternary compsn. raw materials consisting of K2 O, TiO2 and P2 O5 for obtaining a single crystal of KTiOPO4 (KTP) is <=58.5atm.%. The Electric resistivity decreases, i.e., the electric conductivity increases when the oxygen content is >=58.5atm.%. Then, the single crystal which has the low electric conductivity, i.e., is suppressed in heat generation when voltage is impressed thereon is obtd. if the KTP single crystal is formed from the ternary compsn. raw materials regulated in the oxygen content to <=58.5atm.%. The fluctuation in the extinction ratio to the frequency of the driving voltage for optical modulation is ameliorated if the electro-optical modulator is constituted by using this single crystal. |
