PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the defect part of a structure reinforced with a steel plate with high reliability by use of an infrared thermometer. SOLUTION: In the detection of a detect of a structure, the surface side of which is reinforced with a steel plate, the emitted energy from the surface of the reinforcing steel plate in the structure to be detected is measured by an infrared thermometer. The area where the temperature difference with the circumference is±0.3 deg.C or more is detected on the basis of the temperature signal from the infrared thermometer. When this area is 400cm<2> or more, it is judged that a defect is present within this area.
