The invention concerns an electromagnetic hammer with mobile ferromagnetic weight, comprising a tube (1) designed to rest via an anvil on an element to be driven in (50), bearing a peripheral winding (2), a weight (14) received sliding in the tube (1), and electric powering means connected to the winding (2) to excite the latter to generate an electromagnetic field for lifting the weight. The weight is urged to strike the anvil by the action of its own mass when the winding is no longer excited, the winding being made by wound package around the tube (1), and the tube being made of a non-magnetic material and comprising means (3, 4, 5, 6) for picking up axial load, and transmitting this load to the anvil (13) when the weight (14) goes up again. The powering means comprise a flywheel associated with a rotating motor and an alternator.
