PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit where interrupts of decoding processing and disturbance in a decoded image or a frozen decoded image attended with the interruption can be avoided, its method and a computer- readable memory. SOLUTION: A decoder control section 112 discriminates whether or not decoding of coded image data exceeds the capability of a decoder. A subsampling section 113 applies subsampling to the coded image data on the basis of the discrimination result. An output buffer 111 stores the decoded image data or image data that are subsampled with the subsampling section 113.
