PURPOSE: A backlight for a liquid crystal display device is provided to increase the light focussing degree of the backlight while reducing the fabrication cost by disposing a prism film having a plurality of linear prisms between a light source and a light guide plate. CONSTITUTION: A backlight for a liquid crystal display device includes a linear light source(410) extended in a first direction and emitting light, a lamp housing(420) surrounding the light source and having an opening part at a side, a light guide plate(450) connected to the opening part of the lamp housing at a side and guiding the light emitted from the light source from a side surface in a second direction, a reflection plate(460) disposed at a lower part of the light guide plate and reflecting light in a third direction opposite to the second direction toward the second direction, and a first prism(430) positioned between the light source and the light guide plate and having a plurality of linear prism of which peak angle is 60°-150°.
