PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a line type ink jet printer comprising a platen roller or a transfer drum in which high quality imaging can be realized even if the platen roller or the transfer drum is eccentric. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder comprises an ink jet head supporting member 11 capable of moving an ink jet head in the direction perpendicular to the surface of a platen roller 1 (or a transfer drum), and a roller 22 (or a sliding member) abutting against the print face as a clearance defining member for sustaining a constant distance between an ink ejection opening 13 and the print face of the platen roller. Since the ink ejection opening 13 is located at a predetermined distance from the part where the roller 22 (or a sliding member) abuts against the print face, a constant distance is defined between the ink ejection opening and the ink landing face resulting in stabilized high quality printing.
