PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a control program stored in a memory element is not rewritable into a control program for operating a camera, when the unit configuration of the camera is changed if the unit configuration is not correct. SOLUTION: An external device for the camera is composed of a discriminating means 28, which discriminates the properness of the unit configuration of the camera in accordance with the information on the unit configuration, based on the information and a warning means 31 having a display means 33 which displays an improperness warning and contents functionally restricted, according to the unit configuration, when the discriminating means 28 discriminates that the unit configuration is improper.
