摘要
1,123,670. Electrostatic precipitators. D. N. HANSON and C. R. WILKE. 2 Jan., 1967 [3 Jan., 1966], No. 65/67. Heading B2J. An electrostatic precipitator to separate foreign particles from a gas stream includes means e.g. spray nozzles 17, 27, Fig. 1, to introduce into the gas stream additional particles, means for electrostatically charging both the foreign and the additional particles, and a grounded conductive surface downstream of the charging means. The charged particles provide a space charge region adjacent the conductive surface means, so that the foreign and additional particles move towards the surface. As described, the precipitator comprises two stages 10, 20, each divided into a charging and a collector section, which may be formed by groups of tubes. A voltage is applied to the charging electrodes 14, 24 via conductors 12, 22. The liquid droplets and foreign particles are precipitated on to the walls of tubes 16, 26 and the liquid with entrapped particles then flows to collecting troughs, 18, 28. In the separation, e.g. of carbon particles, oil may be used as a wetting agent, in a first stage, and water droplets to remove oil in a second stage. In modifications there may be vertical corona wires 30, 31, Fig. 7, in combination with grounded cylindrical rods 32a, 32b, 32c. The water droplets may be sprayed from a nozzle held at a negative potential to ground; and individual nozzles may be associated with each collecting tube. The charge in the first stage may be generated by the spray or solely by the concentration of particles, charging by electrodes being confined to a second stage. The precipitator may be vertically mounted in a chimney, and supplied with liquid via a filter 37, Fig. 9, pumps 38, 39, and a heat exchanger 36.
