Ball bearing utilises a cage of a synthetic matl. that ensures a nominal ball contact with inner and outer races during no load operational conditions. The situation is frequently encountered in automobile transmission systems that bearings normally transmitting high loads under drive conditions, also produce problems due to impacting of inner and outer races with the ball bearings when the drive is disengaged. To avoid this situation the cage is so profiled that alternate balls are biased against the outer race by a lip and the other ball bearings biased against the inner race by a similar lip. This ensures a nominal contact pressure under no load conditions.
